Jo Tastula & Stuart Watkins

Jo Tastula and Stuart Watkins are well known individually as loved teachers, coaches and inspirations among the yoga community. However, the union of the two individual wholes can only be described as alchemical magic.

Jo and Stuart initially met as yoga professionals within the international community. However, the catalyst of their coming together was Jo’s parents falling ill. With the onset of cancer in her mother and Alzheimer’s in her father, Jo began traveling back and forth to her home town of Perth, Australia. There, she and Stuart teamed up on an unexpected journey of divine romance and karmic collaborations. Ram Dass, who married them at his feet in Hawaii last November said, “Marriage is not for everyone but you two are on a tandem ride to God.” Their mission is two-fold; to bring the Bhakti back into Vinyasa yoga through a commitment to the “flow” of all things. And, to share that the art of yoga in one’s life is truly about service. It was through the birth of their child, Sole Rose, they discovered first hand that caring for self is just one type of yoga but caring for others is something exponentially different. Through this ongoing journey they feel they are being opened to serving others in a new and much more profound way.

For the past 15 years, Jo Tastula has dedicated her life to the yogic lineage of Krishnamacharya; whose teachings became the gateway to advanced studies in: Insight Meditation, Shiatsu & 5 Element Theory, Prenatal & Postnatal Yoga, Anatomy & Physiology and Core Shamanism. The root of her personal practice began as a child in the deserts of Western Australia, where the eternal landscape and aboriginal dreamtime lit the fire within her as a seeker of life’s truths. Jo’s class creates an opportunity for you to dive deeply into your own inner waters and explore nature, truth, universal connectivity and to practice radical self-care.

Stuart Watkins is a yoga teacher, holistic life coach, and health and wellness expert based in Perth, Western Australia. Stuart is known for his inspirational style of teaching that incorporates both eastern spiritual philosophy and western techniques for mental, physical, and spiritual transformation. Stuart blends together his background in Vinyasa Flow, Akhanda Yoga, philosophy, kundalini, tantra, life coaching, and fitness training to create a highly transformative and healing environment. Stuart teaches and coaches with raw yet compassionate honesty to help bring your yoga practice off the mat and into daily life.

This year at LIB, Jo and Stuart will be teaching a handful of soulful, juicy classes accompanied by live sound scapes and DJ beats. In addition, be sure to catch their relationship talk, “Loving Beyond Your Reptilian Brain.”

Chet Faker

An artist of considerable range, Chet Faker — the name taken by Melbourne-raised, Brooklyn-based Nick Murphy — writes, performs and records all of his own music, giving it a warm, intimate feel with a solid groove structure. His critically acclaimed, debut full length album Built On Glass was released on Future Classic / Downtown in April 2014. The album was the highly anticipated follow up to his 2012 EP Thinking in Textures and Lockjaw, his 3-song EP with fellow Australian producer Flume, released in late-2013. Chet Faker recently won five ARIA Awards including Best Male Artist, Producer of the Year, and Best Independent Album. He also took the #1 spot on the triple j Hottest 100, and the critics from The Guardian (UK) named him one of their “artists to watch” in 2015, among other accolades. He is the master of heart wrenching soul, taking global audiences on countless journeys through the pain and pleasure of deep soul wrenching love.

Although Chet has been around for a while as a singer of his live music, he first debuted and discovered his newfound love for DJing at the Do LaB Stage at Coachella last year. He is inspired and excited to continue fostering this talent and connect with people on a more intimate level inside the Temple.

Nahko, an Oregon-native born a mix of Puerto Rican, Native American, and Filipino bloodlines considers himself a citizen in service to the planet. Disillusioned by the world around him and inspired by vagabond, Americana musicians and storytellers like Conor Oberst and Bob Dylan, Nahko left home as a teenager in search of adventure and self discovery. Armed with stories, a guitar, and a fierce set of ideals, he set out to bridge the cultural gaps dividing his own psyche. He began producing a public, musical journal of his journey toward personal, spiritual, and social healing, and thus Medicine for the People was born. Recently, Nahko discussed his successes, his philosophies, his music, and his life with Huffington Post, who called Nahko’s music “beautiful and stirring.” Nahko describes his music as a mix of hip-hop and folk rock with a world message.
